Hobie Cat Australia

The Bravo's special keel shape eliminates the need for a daggerboard for easy beaching.

All sailboats need something to prevent them from slipping sideways or resisting the lateral forces generated by the sail. Most boats have either keels, centerboards, daggerboards or leeboards. The Hobie Bravo has a low-aspect ratio keel which was designed to maximize lateral resistance and maneuverability. It has many benefits - you don't have the weight or expense of the daggerboards, or the worry about beaching or running aground. When sailing downwind or reaching, there is virtually no compromise to performance.
